Here’s a fact: paper-cuts are pure unadulterated evil. Like the rose’s thorn, it’s the fly in the ointment that stops a generally awesome thing (yes, paper and roses are similarly awesome) from being 100% people-safe. Picture this: a shiny new letter falls through your door. Covered in real handwriting and bursting with potential secrets and excitements, you trip over yourself just to get to it as fast as possible.
You can almost taste that sweet correspondence when… SHAZAM. You’ve been unexplainably sliced! All thoughts of pleasure have flown from your head and now all you can do is suck your finger and let loose a high-pitched whining.
It’s a horror that we all have suffered at one point or another, but now audacious designer Nadeem Haidary hopes to change our perception on this greatest of calamities. Behold, the paper-cut razor! Made from a single folded sheet of water-resistant paper, this razor is truly and completely disposable.
Haidary has this to say about the project:
‘This project uses that everyday mishap as inspiration for an everyday task. Paper Cut Razor takes a seemingly outrageous idea and makes it real. It’s a disposable razor made entirely out of paper. It’s a fictional product that playfully challenges two notions: that paper cuts are inherently evil, and that current disposable razors are truly disposable’.
Nadeem accompanies the paper-cut razor with some gorgeous packaging and presentation. All in all, we’re just sad that it’s not available for purchase. Think of the novelty!
