Looking at this collection of photographs from Australian photographer Tom Blachford’s trip to Iceland it isn’t hard to beleive that many Icelandic people still firmly believe in spirits and fairies.
From Blachford’s series the country seems prehistoric, even primordial. The occasional houses seem frail and out of place compared to the looming mountains, monstrous weather formations and the slow inexorable pace of the glaciers. It must be quite a thing to live in such a place, sandwiched among icy waters, gushing subterranean steam and bitter snow. We don’t know about you but it makes us itch to get out of the city!
