If there’s anyone who had a life of crime down to an art, it must be Natwarlal, When he was still alive, Natwarlal was an infamous con artist, a wanted man in eight Indian states who had chalked up 113 years in jailtime with 100 pending cases against him.
Natwarlal famously tricked foreigners into buying the Taj Mahal thrice, the Red Fort twice and even the Parliament House of India and the Rashtrapati Bhawan (the president’s official home). Gifted in disguises and forgery, he was repeatedly caught but escaped from prison every single time. His notoriety has made him an unlikely hero in his native village Bangra, Bihar, where a statue in his likeness now stands.
