The Italians have done it this time: they’ve built fake windows with nanoparticle technology that reproduce sunlight to let the interiors of sun-deprived homes to take on a magical hue. Created by CoeLux, the installations use a full-spectrum LED lighting system that mimics sunlight — choose from tropical, Mediterranean or Nordic — to lend to this convincing illusion.
The light source is placed behind a blue-tinted pane, and this light is refracted at an angle to look like it is coming from outdoors instead of the ceiling. To emulate tropical sunlight, light is cast dramatically at 60 degrees, while the Mediterranean’s balanced sunlight is reproduced by being reflected 45 degrees. Finally, at 30 degrees, you’ll get a Nordic-like mellow light to graze the walls of your home.
